Shrouded beneath a cloak of night, a figure stood beneath the high arch of the door. A snarl of a grin broke through the dark, leaving all to see utterly frightened. He was the essence of immortality, a fact that hadn’t gone unnoticed.

With a powerful knock of the door, a rumble that pierced the silence of the mansion, he awaited an answer. His eyes smiled as the door opened to another. A reflection of himself. A copy.

The mirrored eyes narrowed with animosity, and with a voice raw with malevolence, he spoke. “Get out.”

The sky fragmented, air charged with heated electricity as light darted into the furthest corners of the world. Rolling growls clapped and collided, entrapping its inhabitants in a deafening thunder.

Elle slipped over the muddied grass, the air clinging to her dampened skin as she stumbled. Dirt skittered loose, and leaves were ripped from the deathbeds as her feet pounded into the softened earth. Each step was taken from her, the uneven terrain causing her to falter. With her legs and arms caked with mud and hair tearing with each brush past a screaming vine, her pace slowed dramatically.

Desperate arms encircled the small object, its muted shine glinting off the sinking sun in the distance. The sky's blue had just begun melding into a softer hue, an orange-pink tinting it's edges, licking up the corners as a flame did to a page.

Atop a grassy hill, the green leaves flaring yellow and gold, Elle reached for its peak. Tightening her grasp on the small urn, she felt her stomach twist in protest. But despite her reluctance, Elle wasn't deterred from her path.

She clutched the urn as if it were about to disappear forever, and though she knew it wasn't possible even in the slightest, Elle hugged the thing like a lifeline. The c
